In a recent white paper of the Coordinating Council of Broward, findings reported that the Broward metro area is the worst in the country for severe cost burden for working households. Broward County’s housing affordability problem has widespread economic impact, and there is a growing recognition of the important link between an adequate affordable workforce housing supply and economic growth.
The number of cost-burdened owner and renter households in Broward County has continued to increase at the same rate as during the housing bubble. 49.7% of households in Broward County (330,624 households) are cost-burdened.
Industry advisers say consumers shouldn’t spend more than 30 percent of their incomes on housing.
